During her research in Indonesia, she was mainly ‘based’ in FHUI. Julie Fraser conducted a research regarding the implementation of international human rights norms in Asian and African countries. In her research, Fraser emphasized on the viewpoint of non-governmental actors. Her research studied how non-governmental actors and non-state legal norms interact with the actors and norms to implement international standards in domestic context.
Islamic institutions / organizations and Islamic law in Indonesia are good examples of strong non-governmental actors, because both are very influential in Indonesia. This is the reason Julie Fraser chose Indonesia as a case study to see how these different actors collaborate to implement the international human rights norms.
In conducting her research in Indonesia, Fraser focused to study the role of norms and Islamic institutions in the implementation of family planning (FP) in Indonesia. The reason for choosing FHUI, according to Julie, is that FHUI is the best law school in Indonesia. Also, according to Fraser, FHUI has excellent and professional researchers.
During her time in FHUI, Fraser said that she gained valuable experiences and also was very happy to be in Universitas Indonesia campus that is lovely and beautiful.
