Student Exchange and Street Law Program

Student Exchange and Street Law Program is a student exchange program held by Legal Clinic and Laboratory Unit Faculty of Law Universitas Indonesia. This program is implemented in cooperation between Universitas Indonesia and Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. Previously, on March 2018 Universitas Indonesia sent eight delegates to participate in similar activities and on this occasion the Universiti Malaya sent eight students to attend the Student Exchange and Street Law Program from March 31 to April 8, 2018.
On March 31, 2018, students from Universiti Malaya landed at Soekarno Hatta Airport at 11.30 Western Indonesian Time. The delegation of Universiti Malaya was warmly welcomed by friends from Universitas Indonesia at the airport. Afterward, they continued the trip to Depok to check in at the hotel and then had lunch at Margo City and later at night they had dinner together in Kelapa Dua, Depok. The next day the delegates from Universiti Malaya joined Cultural Trip activities to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) to see the diversity of Indonesian culture and history. Not only to the Museum of Indonesia, the delegates are also invited to visit the Children’s Palace and some of the Indonesian Traditional House Pavilions. After TMII, they went to the National Monument (Monas) which is an icon of Jakarta. At Monas, the group took an evening stroll, took photos together and had tasted the delicious kerak telor or egg crust and pletok beer Jakarta.
The next day, Monday, April 2, 2018, the delegates followed the opening ceremony attended by Vice Dean of FHUI, Parulian Paidi Aritonang, SH, LL.M., MPP., and Head of Legal Laboratory and Clinic Febby Mutiara Nelson, SH, MH and several lecturers of the Legal Clinic. The event started with a speech from Parulian P. Aritonang, S.H., LL.M., M.P.P then the head of delegates from Universiti Malaya and ended with a presentation from Mr. Nurohim as a representative from Depok Bus Station Mosque School, Depok. In the afternoon all delegates joined in a class led by Prof. Dr. Topo Santoso, S.H., M.H., Febby Mutiara Nelson, S.H., M.H., and Mrs. Wiwiek Awiati, S.H. which discussed the making of lesson plan which will be used at the time of legal counseling activity in the future.
In the following days the delegates took part in legal counseling in several places as follows: Yayasan Kasih Anak Kanker Indonesia (YKAKI), Bus Station Mosque School (Master) Depok and Rumah Matalangi Learning. At Yayasan Kasih Anak Kanker Indonesia, the delegates gave information about the importance of maintaining the environment related to that everyone has the right to clean environment. Then the counseling held at Bus Station Mosque School (Master) Depok which raised the theme of the importance of formal education for the younger generation, which also motivates the children in the Master to be passionate about learning and achieving their dreams. While at Rumah Belajar Matalangi, the delegates gave legal counseling related to “theft”, explaining how the theft is regulated in the laws and regulations of Indonesia and its consequences. All activities are packaged in such a way by using interactive and creative learning methods so that the information presented can be well received by all participants according to age and understanding of each participant. On Saturday, April 7, 2018 all delegates headed to Taman Impian Jaya Ancol and attended the closing ceremony at Bandar Jakarta. The event ended on Sunday, April 8, 2018 and the delegates return to Malaysia.
