Student Exchange Program and Clinical Legal Education

March 2nd to 11th, 2018
Student Exchange Program and Clinical Legal Education is a student exchange program between Universitas Indonesia and Universiti Malaya. This program is organized by Universitas Indonesia Legal Clinic and Community Outreach Program (COP) in cooperation with Asian Law Student Association (ALSA), Universiti Malaya. Faculty of Law Universitas Indonesia sent 8 students to join the program for 10 days starting from March 2-11, 2018 in Malaysia.
On Friday, March 2, 2018, Universitas Indonesia students gathered at Soekarno Hatta Airport to depart to Malaysia at 13:35 WIB and arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 17:00 Malaysian local time. Arriving in Malaysia, Universitas Indonesia delegation was picked up by a COP representative from Universiti Malaya using a bus to head to Tun Ahmad Zaidi Residence College in Universiti Malaya where UI delegation stayed in Malaysia. In the evening, students were invited to try local cuisines and stroll around the city of Kuala Lumpur.
The next day on Saturday, March 3, 2018, students gathered at Universiti Malaya to discuss lesson plan and conduct a trial run for legal counseling activities in collaboration with the Kechara Chicken Soup community. Afterward, the students continued to carry out counseling for children with the theme of “Playing Safely” in the shelter belonging to Kechara community. On Sunday, March 4, 2018, students gathered at Universiti Malaya to prepare for the lesson plan for counseling activity on Wednesday and Thursday at the Children Activity Center or Pusat Aktiviti Kanak-Kanak (PAKK) and Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih (SBJK). The day’s activities ended after the students returned from Sunway Pyramid and tried LRT public transportation when they returned to the residence.
The next day Monday, March 5, 2018, the students attended the opening ceremony of the Student Exchange Program and conducted a trial run for activities at PAKK. Then at night, the students enjoyed dinner at Piccadilly. On Tuesday, March 7, 2018, the students attended the Seminar on The Law of Malaysia and Indonesia: Selected Issues with several selections of themes, namely Marriage, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Constitutional and Human Rights that were delivered by several lecturers of FHUI, Universiti Malaya, Universitas Pancasila and Universitas Tarumanegara.
Wednesday, March 8, 2018, the students attended legal counseling activities at PAKK with the theme of counseling on “Bullying” along with members of COP, Universiti Malaya. Afterward, the students went to Art Market or Pasar Seni and Petaling Street which sells special Malaysian souvenirs. On Thursday, March 9, 2018, students attended legal counseling event at SBJK with the theme “Fraud” later in the afternoon the students toured to Kuala Lumpur Twin Tower which is the icon of Kuala Lumpur and then visited Putera Jaya which is the administrative city in Malaysia.
Friday, March 9, 2018, students attended moot court simulation activities or commonly called the Mock Trial. These activities were held together with children from SBJK who visited Universiti Malaya. After that, the students and all participants had lunch together in the faculty and performed some songs to entertain fellow participants during lunch. On Saturday, March 10, 2018, students visited Malacca which is one of the historic cities in Malaysia along with delegates from ALSA SEP program then return to the residence. On Sunday, March 11, 2018, students prepared to return to Indonesia and departed to Jakarta at 19:05 pm Malaysian local time.
