Sai Muthukumar, a student from the University of Technology Sydney and New Colombo Plan Scholarship recipient, completed a student exchange during Odd Semester 2024 at Fakultas Hukum, Universitas Indonesia. His time abroad was marked by academic achievements, professional accomplishments, and rich cultural experiences.
Sai was awarded the UI Shine Scholarship and achieved a GPA of 3.85/4, earning As in five subjects. He was deeply thankful to his lecturers for their guidance throughout the semester.
Sai also had the opportunity to represent UI and FHUI at the 3rd ICC-HK International Commercial Mediation Competition 2024 in Hong Kong. The UI team reached the Top 8 and received the award for Best Creative Solution Generation. He credited the success to his dedicated teammates — Freya Alexis (FH UI’22), Gloria Rebecca Anne (FH UI’22), Revanza Hasya (FH UI’22), and Loundress Cornago (FH UI’21), and thanked coaches Justin Alexander Halim, SH, Abraham Namura, SH, Gabrielle Amanda Putra, SH, and Regita Eka Maritza, SH, for their mentorship.
In February 2025, the FH UI delegation for ICC-HK became the first in UI history to compete at the 20th ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition 2025 in Paris, France — the largest commercial mediation competition worldwide. Their team placed in the Top 20 out of 48 Teams and received the Distinction in Mediation Advocacy award.
Sai was named one of the Most Outstanding Students in the Non-Academic Field 2025 by Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Fakultas Hukum Universitas Indonesia (BEM FH UI). This recognition followed his involvement in the International Law Moot Court Society (ILMS) during both 2024 and 2025.
Demonstrating a strong interest in policy and governance, Sai published an article on AI Policy and Governance in Indonesia in the 2024 edition of the Business Law Society FH UI Magazine, analysing national developments in A.I. regulation. Further, he participated in the BLS x SSEK Law Firm Personal Data Protection Workshop, ALSA LC UI Guest Lecture Series, and the 6th icLave International Conference, engaging with professionals from Indonesia and beyond.
Sai joined Recht FC and participated in the National Law Faculties Football Tournament (Piala Djokosoetono FHUI 2024), where the team finished as semi-finalists. He also shared his personal journey and cross-cultural experiences during the international students’ graduation ceremony. Sai found both moments to be refreshing and rewarding.
Lastly, Sai extended heartfelt gratitude to Angga Priancha, SH, LL.M, his Intellectual Property Rights lecturer and Head of the Fakultas Hukum International Undergraduate Program (KKI), for his tireless support and encouragement at every stage of the exchange program.
