Commemoration and Reflection on the Thought Contribution of Prof. Tapi Omas Ihromi in “Legal Anthropology” and “Gender and Law” in Indonesia
The study field of Law, Society and Development Studies at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia in collaboration with the Djojodigoeno Customary Law Study Center, Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University, held a Memorial Seminar on Commemoration and Reflection on the Thought Contribution of Prof. Tapi Omas Ihromi in “Legal Anthropology” and “Gender and Law” in Indonesia on Thursday, October 11, 2018 in the Multimedia Room of S & T FHUI, UI Depok Campus.
In August, precisely on August 5, 2018, Indonesia, especially FHUI, mourned the passing of Prof. Tapi Omas Ihromi-Simatupang, SH, MA (1930-2018). The first woman to become a Professor in FHUI, who was one of the pioneers of women’s / gender studies in Indonesia with Prof. Saparinah Sadli who has been keenly reviving legal education that prioritizes the interests of society.
In the field of Legal Anthropology studies, during that period, she produced writings which some of them become the main reference in their fields. For example two books published by the Obor Indonesia Foundation, which is entitled Anthropology and Law (1984) and Legal Anthropology: a rampage (1993) respectively. Both of these books have become good explanations for anyone who wants to get acquainted with the study of Legal Anthropology.
In addition to commemorating her contribution and as an expression of gratitude to Prof. Tapi Omas Ihromi, the memorial seminar aimed to reflect on the thoughts of Prof. Tapi Omas Ihromi regarding law and culture, law and gender and discussed the further developments of Prof. Tapi Omas Ihromi’s thoughts for the development of Legal Anthropology studies in Indonesia.
Presenting speakers, namely Dr. Edy Ikhsan (University of North Sumatra), Dr. Rikardo Simarmata (Gadjah Mada University), Prof. Dr. Sulistyowati Irianto (Universitas Indonesia), Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, Ph.D (Gadjah Mada University), Titik Kartika (University of Bengkulu), and Dr. Lidwina Inge Nurtjahjo (Universitas Indonesia).
