Business Competition Law Seminar on Online-based Transportation Businesses in Indonesia

These recent years, Indonesia has undergone a transformation in terms of transportation. This can be seen from the emergence of online-based transportation model in major cities in Indonesia. This online-based transportation services is also called ridehailing  which began to bloom in 2014 in Indonesia.

However, the existence of online-based transportation has problems, especially problems and questions from the legal aspects, starting from the legal aspects of transportation, employment, information technology, to business competition.

The beginning of the emergence of this transportation mode was initiated by Uber which carried the Uber Taxi as an online-based transportation app service business. Then followed by the launch of Gojek, GrabBike, GrabTaxi, and other online-based transportation apps. But the Indonesian Government seems to stutter in setting regulations. The government’s unpreparedness in accepting this new style of transportation is increasingly clarified by the government’s hesitant attitude in issuing regulations that must be changed several times due to the pressure of various parties. (PM No. 32 of 2016 must be revised to become PM No. 26 of 2017 which was later revoked by the Supreme Court. Furthermore, PM No. 108 of 2017 was finally terminated through the decision of the Supreme Court No. 15P / HUM / 2018 dated 31 May 2018).

To find out how Indonesian Business Competition Law reviews the phenomenon of online-based transportation in Indonesia, Djokosoetono Research Center, the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia held a Seminar on Business Competition Law on Online-based Transportation Business in Indonesia (10/01) in S & T Multimedia Room FHUI, UI Depok Campus.
