A Meeting of Dean Cooperation Council of Law Schools in Western Indonesia Region
Located at the Faculty of Law Universitas Indonesia, a number of leaders of the Faculty of Law of State Universities which is incorporated in the Dean Cooperation Council (Badan Kerja Sama—BKS) of Law Schools in Western Indonesia Region held a meeting on 12 to 14 April 2018. A number of agenda held in this meeting, one of them was seminar sessions delivered by several speakers.
In her speech, Chairwoman of BKS of State Universities in Western Region and Dean of FHUI, Prof. Melda Kamil Ariadno, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. said that the meeting was scheduled to discuss important things related to the development of universities. This year, the BKS meeting of Western Region took on the theme of actual issues related to law higher education. This is because universities must open themselves to all kinds of dynamics that occur both in government and in society.
Thus, this meeting also presented a seminar session with speakers from government officials especially from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) who will discuss how the role of law schools in the development of national law. This seminar session was delivered by Acting Director General of General Law Administration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Cahyo Rahadian Muzhar, S.H., LL.M.
In addition, the material sessions discussed the development of Intellectual Property Rights in Indonesia. This session was delivered by the Director General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Freddy Harris, S.H., LL.M., ACCS. On this occasion, Dr. Freddy Harris, S.H., LL.M. explained about the growth of intellectual property and the strategy of the government in the future in developing Intellectual Property Law in Indonesia.
Different to the previous meeting of BKS, this time the meeting also featured a seminar on socio-legal. This socio-legal session is presented by Prof. Dr. Dra. Sulistyowati S, M.A. who is Professor of Legal Anthropology at FHUI.
Other than that, the meeting also invited speakers from UN Women Country Representative Indonesia, Dr. Sabhine Machl who discussed about Women, Law and Legal Development. UN Women Country Representative Indonesia is a United Nations entity working to empower women and girls.
At the end of the meeting, a discussion with the Chairman of the Board of Professors of Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Hakristuti Hakrisnowo, S.H., M.A. on the development of the Criminal Code Draft. Prof. Hakristuti Hakrisnowo, S.H., M.A. is a member of the drafting team of the Criminal Code Draft (RKUHP).
