Book Discussion: Beyond the Limit—UI Diaspora Stories at International Financial Institutions
2 April 2018 2.06pm — Special Unit of Alumni Relations Improvement Faculty of Law Universitas Indonesia in collaboration with ILUNI FHUI and Indonesian Diaspora Network Global held “Book Discussion: Beyond the Limit—UI Diaspora Stories at International Financial Institutions” on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Room E 202 FHUI, UI Depok Campus.
Among the guest speakers were Mohamad Al Arief (Special Staff of Minister of Finance and former Head of External & Corporate Relations, Social Protection & Labor Global Practice Group, World Bank – FHUI and FEUI alumni), Vivi Alatas (Lead Economist, World Bank, Jakarta Office – FMIPA UI alumni) and Said Zaidansyah (Principal Counsel, Asian Development Bank – FHUI alumni).
This book tells the story of 15 Indonesian diasporas whom work as international staffs at International Financial Institutions (IFIs) in which Indonesian government partakes. Those International Financial Institutions (IFIs) include Asian Development Bank, International Monetary Fund, Islamic Development Bank, OPEC Fund and World Bank.
The book also describes various channels available for Indonesian citizens to become IFIs staffs. Some may join mid-career or at a relatively young age through special recruitment programs such as Young Professional Program and Economist Program.
The authors of this book tell about their backgrounds and technical tasks and provide an overview of what drives them to work at IFIs, the challenges they face when entering and working in IFIs including stories about adjustments at work and their life in new cities and countries.
