Monday, January 23, 2017 – Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (FHUI) hosted Regional School Frontiers of Children’s in the ASEAN on Monday (23/1) at Soemadipradja & Taher Room (S&T) FHUI, UI Campus Depok.
Regional School Frontiers of Children’s in the ASEAN which was opened by FHUI Dean Prof. Dr. Topo Santoso, SH, M.H., this morning is a joint program with Universiteit Leiden FHUI and Ateneo De Manila University. This educational program will be held for six days, commencing on 23 to 27 January 2017. The theme of the program is regarding Child Rights in the ASEAN region with the topics of discussion around contemporary issues from legal perspective. The Program is participated by 45 people from several countries in ASEAN such as Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and countries outside the ASEAN region such as Australia, France, Sri Lanka and Sweden.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Ton Liefaard of UNICEF Chair in Children’s Rights, Leiden Law School gave an appreciation of FHUI hospitality in welcoming the participants. According to him, the Regional School was a unique and exciting activity, because it was for the first time to be held in ASEAN with a joint committee from three Universities. Meanwhile, Minister of Social Affairs, which was represented by a special staff, said that the enforcement of children’s rights regulation was not just the government sole responsibility, but the whole society, so that the Regional School was expected to provide a significant contribution.
According to Dean FHUI, Prof. Dr. Topo Santoso, SH, M.H., FHUI offered courses on the Rights of the Child in Undergraduate Program in Law and Society Development specialization. Therefore, FHUI responded positively to this Program. Moreover, all participants came from a variety of academic and professional practitioners, so that this Regional School was to be a forum to share and discuss participants’ experiences with regard to child rights.
