On 2nd – 6th November 2020, as part of the CYBER-Project, we held Gender Awareness & Cyber Security Teaching Training, with Lieselotte Heederik as the trainer. Within the cybersecurity sector, there is a worldwide gender divide with low representation of women. Not only the donor of this project, Nuffic but also the United Nations have set targets for the achievement of Gender Equality which are formulated under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 on Gender Equality. As this project takes place within higher education, SDG 4 on Education is also applicable. The Government of Indonesia has endorsed the SDGs and monitors its progress.

This training aimed to improve gender awareness and implement course materials with gender-sensitive way. This training consisted of 5 sessions of each 1-1.5 hour, with agenda as follow: Gender awareness; Gender & law; Gender and cybersecurity: the digital gender divide: what can be done?; Gender and cybercrime; Application in own teaching: gender inclusion & course materials.

Participants form this training consist of lecturer and researcher not only beneficiaries of this project, but other colleges from UI and other universities such as Universitas Padjadjaran, Universitas Bina Nusantara, Universitas Duta Bangsa Surakarta, and Universitas Sumatera Utara. Also, the participants had a diverse educational background, not only law, but also Criminology, Anthropology, Computer Science, and Communication. This made the training more fruitful and exciting.

Follow-up: A document with 12 action points to integrate gender in faculty policies has been developed. However, the duration of the workshop did not allow to further concretize this work plan. To ensure sustainability of this plan further steps are necessary to develop an implementation plan.
